Heroes Brawl
Blizzard Entertainment
UX Designer
2016
Inspired by Hearthstone’s Tavern Brawl, Heroes Brawl introduced weekly rotating game modes with custom rules, maps, and hero pools. It was designed as a low-pressure, high-variety mode to keep players engaged outside of Quick Match and Ranked.
Heroes of the Storm is Blizzard’s take on a team-based hero brawler. It features fast-paced, objective-focused 5v5 matches with characters drawn from across Blizzard’s game universes.
Feature Design
I led UX design for Heroes Brawl, creating new screens to support unique gameplay flows and reward structures. This included a main menu “glue screen” with featured illustrations that rotated weekly to highlight current Brawls and surface key info like mutators, hero limits, and progress towards rewards.
Content Planning
Planned the first 8 Brawls and built flow diagrams showing how each brawl variant used different screens. The system guided engineering and gave design a flexible, consistent UI framework that has supported the feature ever since.
